Ledger has announced the launch of an offline recovery key, which is available to users of Flex and Stax wallets. This physical device, made in the form of a smart card with NFC, makes it possible to regain control over cryptocurrency assets even without an internet connection. To activate, you need to attach the card to a compatible device and enter a personal PIN code.

The new tool is positioned as an alternative to the classic recovery system using a 24-word seed phrase, which often causes difficulties in storage and risks of loss. Ledger emphasizes that the offline key does not completely replace traditional methods, but only expands the capabilities of users, offering a more reliable and convenient way of backup access.

The Recovery Key is based on Secure Element technology - the same as in the company's standard products. The entire solution code and related technical information are already available to the developer community on the GitHub platform. Thus, Ledger maintains its course on openness and transparency of its new products.

As noted in the official statement, the use of a physical key remains entirely voluntary. Flex and Stax owners will be able to create such keys at their own discretion and, if necessary, activate them only through confirmation on the main Ledger device. Additionally, it is allowed to issue several Recovery Keys at once, which makes the backup process even more flexible.

In a recent interview, the company's CTO Charles Guillemet said that Ledger is winding down support for the old Nano S model. This decision is explained by the desire to focus on more modern products and the development of new security tools for users.

Ledger has long been known for its attention to digital asset protection. The company continues to look for solutions that will minimize the likelihood of losing access to cryptocurrencies. In the context of an increasing number of users and the sophistication of digital threats, such initiatives help wallet owners feel more confident.

With the advent of an offline key, Flex and Stax owners will be able to diversify their approaches to storing keys and managing access recovery. This is especially relevant for those who do not trust cloud services or are afraid of data leakage over the Internet.

The new product is already available for order through the official Ledger website. Experts believe that such technologies can become a standard in the hardware wallet market and set a new vector for the development of crypto asset protection tools.
