Telegram founder Pavel Durov shared the story of one of the first buyers of the tokenized @crypto name in the messenger, who paid $350,000 for it two and a half years ago. Today, this name is valued at $25 million, which is 71 times more than the original price. The owner of the name even said: “If these names can’t be taken away from me, I want them all,” emphasizing the importance and uniqueness of direct control over digital assets.
Durov noted that such an example demonstrates the magic that happens when users truly own their digital assets. Telegram differs from many other major platforms in this regard in that it gives complete freedom and ownership of digital identities without the risk of confiscation or interference from third parties. This is made possible by the use of smart contracts in the TON blockchain, on which this system is built.
In addition, the TON Foundation recently announced the launch of a built-in crypto wallet TON Wallet for Telegram users in the United States. This wallet allows you to easily store, receive and send cryptocurrency directly in the application without the need for third-party services. Also in April 2025, the TON Foundation, together with the Libre platform, which is engaged in the tokenization of real assets, launched the Telegram Bond Fund with a volume of $ 500 million.
Thus, Telegram is actively promoting the idea of digital property, creating an infrastructure where users can fully own their names and crypto assets. This case with the growth in the value of a tokenized name only confirms the demand and potential of such digital assets in the future.
