In the US, developers must be registered with FinCEN and have a state license or bank status. In the EU, compliance with the MiCA regulation and registration as a CASP are required.

Separate regulations apply for a number of countries: in the UK — registration with the FCA, in Canada — with FINTRAC, in Japan — with the FSA, in South Korea — reporting to VASP, in the UAE — licenses from VARA or DFSA, in Switzerland — FINMA authorization, in Hong Kong — SFC licenses, in Thailand — an SEC license, in South Africa — registration with the FSCA.

In France, the transition period is valid until June 2026, in Germany — until December 2025, after which only MiCA licenses will be accepted.

The restrictions only apply to custodial services, while non-custodial wallets remain outside the new requirements. Google also promised to update its help materials to make the rules easier to understand.

This step is aimed at strengthening control over the crypto sector and protecting users from illegal services.
