Glassnode specialists stated that Bitcoin continues to move within the usual four-year cycle associated with halvings. According to them, the charts show a repetition of patterns characteristic of past growth stages. Since August 14, when the cryptocurrency rate exceeded $124,000 for the first time, long-term holders began actively taking profits. The volume of sales turned out to be comparable to the peaks of previous cycles, excluding only the rapid growth of 2016-2017.
At the same time, analysts are recording a weakening of interest from institutional players: about $975 million has been withdrawn from Bitcoin ETFs over the past four trading days. This factor has increased pressure on the price. After a historical maximum of $124,128, the cryptocurrency rate fell by more than 8% and dropped to $113,403.
The Glassnode report notes that the drop in demand provoked traders to take risky trades. The volume of open positions on large altcoins briefly reached a record $60 billion, after which it decreased by $2.5 billion. Experts emphasize: such activity indicates the market is moving to a late stage of the cycle.
If the current scenario follows historical patterns, the peak may occur in October. In previous periods, maximum values were reached two to three months after a similar starting point from price minimums. However, analysts warn that each cycle has its own characteristics, and it is impossible to predict the exact timing.
“We are seeing a repetition of traditional patterns, but it cannot be ruled out that the structure of the four-year cycle is changing,” the report notes.
It is worth noting that not everyone shares the opinion of experts. Earlier, CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju said that the classic theory of Bitcoin cycles is losing its relevance. According to him, the active presence of institutional investors disrupts previous patterns. A similar position was taken by Bitwise Investment Director Matt Hougan, who emphasized that the forces that formed cycles in the past have weakened significantly.
Thus, the market found itself at a point of uncertainty: on the one hand, Bitcoin demonstrates historical patterns of growth, on the other, changed conditions can transform the usual cycle. The coming months will be decisive for answering the question of whether the cryptocurrency will reach a new peak or its dynamics will change the usual scenario.
