Ripple CTO David Schwartz announced he will step down by the end of 2025. He announced this in a post on the X platform, specifying that he will remain on the board of directors and remain involved in the company.

Schwartz is one of the key engineers behind the XRP Ledger. He has worked at Ripple for over ten years, the last seven of which he served as CTO. Prior to that, he led the cryptography team. During his career at the company, he has been involved in a number of significant projects, including the launch of the RLUSD stablecoin, and has had a significant impact on the technological development of the ecosystem.

In a personal statement, Schwartz noted that his decision stemmed from a desire to devote more time to his family and return to his personal interests: "I want to spend more time with my children and grandchildren, and also pursue hobbies I've been putting off for a long time."

While Schwartz will be stepping down as CTO, he emphasized that he is not leaving permanently. His role will continue to include serving on the board of directors and making occasional visits to the company's office. The developer assured that he remains a part of the crypto community and will continue to share his experience: "I'm not leaving the XRP community. You'll be hearing from me again."

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse publicly thanked Schwartz, calling him a "legend in the crypto industry." He stated that their weekly meetings will continue. "Glad you're staying close and continuing to help us with your deep crypto expertise, guiding the development of our projects," Garlinghouse wrote.

Previously, in May 2024, Schwartz himself called Chris Larsen a key figure at Ripple and noted his crucial role in the company's development.

Thus, Schwartz's departure from his leadership position will be a significant event for Ripple, but his presence on the board of directors and active involvement in the community ensure that his influence on the company's projects will continue into the future.
