The number of downloads of the non-custodial MetaMask wallet exceeded 22 million

MetaMask became the most popular non-custodial wallet according to the CoinGecko aggregator. In 2023, the number of app downloads exceeded 22.66 million.
Coinbase Wallet ranked second with 11 million downloads, and Trust Wallet ranked third with 10.4 million downloads. The top 10 wallets account for 65.9 million new installs, experts said.
According to the report, the top 10 have more than four times the combined installs of all other apps in the segment combined.
The experts also noted that five of the ten most popular software wallets are either supported or owned by centralized exchanges. In their opinion, this indicates the interest of companies in products focused on non-custodial storage.
In particular, Coinbase Wallet and DeFi Wallet are owned by exchanges, Trust Wallet was bought by Binance in 2018, SafePal received investments from Binance Labs. Also in the ranking is the BitKeep program associated with the Bitget trading platform.
When compiling the report, the experts used CERlive installation statistics and publicly available data, current as of August 1, 2023. In total, CoinGecko counted at least 55 programs for working with digital assets.
In July, MetaMask updated the wallet interface by releasing version 10.33. Earlier in the application, it became possible to buy cryptocurrency for fiat.
