Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the launch of an innovative AI lab in Kazakhstan, which will develop solutions at the intersection of artificial intelligence and blockchain. The project is aimed at over a billion users worldwide. The presentation took place at the Digital Bridge 2025 international forum in Astana, according to local media.
Durov clarified that the project is being implemented in partnership with a Kazakh supercomputer cluster and is overseen by the Kazakh Ministry of Artificial Intelligence. The new technologies will provide Telegram users with access to smart features that will improve the convenience, security, and efficiency of interaction with the messenger on a global scale. "With the help of the Kazakh supercomputer cluster, we will be able to ensure the transparent and secure use of AI for an audience of one billion," he noted.
Telegram recently expanded its infrastructure in Kazakhstan, improving connection quality for 12 million local users. According to Durov, this was a preparatory step for the launch of a new service.
The lab will be located in Astana, in the Alem.ai building, where specialists will work with Kazakhstani partners to develop AI technologies. Durov also mentioned Telegram's first regional office in the country and its collaboration with the Astana Hub technology park, of which the company became a member in 2023.
Kazakh authorities welcomed the opening of the lab, emphasizing its importance for strengthening the country's digital infrastructure and enhancing its role in the global artificial intelligence industry.
It's worth noting that Telegram is actively expanding the functionality of its services: previously, the company announced the launch of trading tokenized US stocks through the Telegram Wallet. The new project in Kazakhstan will be another step towards integrating advanced technologies and global digital transformation.
Durov's initiative not only strengthens Telegram's position in the global market but also stimulates the development of the local tech ecosystem, creating new opportunities for specialists and users. The new AI lab promises to become a center for cutting-edge research and practical solutions capable of transforming the user experience with the messenger and digital services in general.
