BitMine acquired an additional 202,037 ETH during the recent crypto market downturn, bringing its total holdings to 3,032,188 coins. The total value of this holding exceeds $12.5 billion, with an average purchase price of approximately $4,154 per token. This transaction brings BitMine closer to its strategic goal of accumulating 5% of the total ETH supply. Additionally, BitMine holds approximately $220 million worth of Bitcoin.
According to company Chairman Tom Lee, recent events in the crypto market, including large-scale liquidations of $19 billion worth of assets, caused a short-term price drop. BitMine used this momentum to increase its position, after which the Ethereum price recovered to $4,111, a 7.5% daily gain. Ethereum's market capitalization is currently valued at approximately $497 billion.
Lee emphasized that during periods of instability, investors often dump risky assets, including even the most promising coins. As a result, such assets are temporarily undervalued and can trade below their intrinsic value. According to Lee, this opens up opportunities for long-term players who can acquire cryptocurrency at discounted prices. Meanwhile, short-term traders often lock in losses in such situations.
BitMine has long been considered the largest corporate holder of Ethereum and ranks second among Bitcoin holders, behind only Strategy, whose BTC holdings are estimated at over $73 billion. According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, the list of the largest corporate investors in Bitcoin also includes the Japanese company Metaplanet, which has become the fourth-largest holder of the crypto asset.
BitMine's current strategy demonstrates a long-term approach to digital asset management. The company uses periods of market fluctuations to strengthen its market presence, and experts believe this tactic could provide it with a significant advantage in the future. Amid growing institutional investor interest in cryptocurrencies, BitMine's actions confirm that even during periods of price declines, major players continue to increase their positions, viewing crypto assets as a strategic element of their investment portfolios.
