According to the IG study, 51% of British investors prefer to invest in cryptocurrencies gradually, aiming for long-term returns. Meanwhile, 27% of survey participants expect a quick return on their investments. About a third of respondents noted that they view cryptocurrencies as a way to secure a decent retirement, and 18% as a means of saving for a home.
The report also highlights investors' cautious attitude toward risk. For example, 35% of respondents try to minimize financial losses, while only 7% are willing to accept high risks for potentially significant returns.
In terms of portfolio structure, almost half of respondents indicated that cryptocurrencies make up only a small portion of their investments. About a third of respondents have a significant portion invested in digital assets, and only 6% invest exclusively in cryptocurrencies. On average, cryptocurrencies account for 23% of British investment portfolios.
Chris Beauchamp, chief market analyst at IG, noted that cryptocurrencies are gradually becoming a mature sector of the economy. According to him, digital assets are attracting the attention of large companies and are no longer perceived solely as a speculative tool, becoming a fully-fledged part of the financial market.
At the same time, a study by the American fintech company FIS showed that 75% of US residents would be willing to use stablecoins for everyday purchases if banks offered the option. This trend indicates growing interest in digital currencies not only as investments but also as a means of payment in everyday life.
Thus, surveys demonstrate that cryptocurrencies are gradually moving from the category of high-risk assets to a more stable tool for savings and payments. Investors in the UK remain cautious, but interest in long-term holding of digital assets is noticeably growing, confirming the acceptance of cryptocurrencies as part of the modern financial system.
