Tether, known for issuing the USDT stablecoin, unveiled PearPass, a local password manager that stores data exclusively on users' devices. The new solution was unveiled at the end of June 2025 by CEO Paolo Ardoino.

PearPass operates without cloud servers or centralized storage, and syncs between devices directly via a P2P connection. The service utilizes end-to-end encryption based on open-source cryptographic libraries and a built-in strong password generator.

PearPass's unique feature is the ability to restore access without the involvement of intermediaries: users manage their keys themselves, minimizing the risk of data compromise. The software is completely open for review, and its security has been verified by Secfault Security.

"Any major security breach proves one thing: if your data is stored in the cloud, it doesn't truly belong to you. PearPass eliminates this single point of failure: no servers, no intermediaries, no backdoors. Syncing and recovery happens directly, under your control," Ardoino emphasized.

The community reaction to the PearPass launch has been generally positive, but it hasn't been without its concerns. Some users have noted that the mobile app requires network access, which raises concerns for a local password manager.

Thus, PearPass is a modern solution for secure password storage and management, focusing on complete user autonomy and the protection of personal information. The solution is already available for free and can be installed on a variety of devices.

Overall, the launch of PearPass demonstrates Tether's commitment to expanding its services, offering users tools focused on security and control over their data.
