In August 2023, Likeweb analysts recorded another decrease in user traffic for the popular chatbot with artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT.
According to the report, ChatGPT usage worldwide decreased by 3% in the last month of summer. The amount of time spent on the site also decreased from 8.7 to 7 minutes.
Meanwhile, unique visitors grew 3% in the US and 0.3% globally in August.
Likeweb senior manager David F. Carr wrote that fluctuations in user numbers may be due to the summer holidays and the gradual resumption of classes. Thus, traffic to the ChatGPT website among the 18-24 age group in the United States fell by 10% in May, by 15% in June and by another 4% in July.
In April, just before exams began, visitors aged 18 to 24 made up 30% of the total US audience. This supports David F. Carr's theory that the chatbot's popularity has declined due to a lack of classes at universities.
Against the background of the decline in the popularity of ChatGPT, artificial intelligence models Bard and Gemini from Google are gradually increasing their audience. The Chinese company Tencent also entered the game with its Hunyuan AI service.
A recent Intelligent survey in May 2023 found that 30% of US undergraduate and graduate students used ChatGPT during the academic year. At the time of publication, there are no uniform rules for the use of AI for studies in American universities.
In the summer of 2023, the Bybit crypto exchange integrated ChatGPT into its trading tools. At the end of August, OpenAI launched a new version of its chatbot for business.
