The Worldcoin cryptocurrency project faces enormous operational challenges, project co-founder Sam Altman said during a speech at the Token 2049 conference in Singapore.
“Obviously the operational challenges are huge when you think about what it takes to produce these beads, another challenge is overcoming the resistance [to collecting] biometrics that some people have when they first hear about the product,” said Sam Altman.
Worldcoin co-founder Alex Blania also said that communicating with regulators around the world has become a major part of his work.
“After launch, we saw an incredible increase in activity within weeks. What was especially impressive was that there were long lines of people almost everywhere waiting for work to begin. And that was very difficult to deal with,” Blania added.
He confirmed Worldcoin does not save data after scanning the iris:
“Your data is being deleted. You essentially remain completely anonymous, and that's a very, very powerful thing because I think we need to solve this problem on a global scale - create some kind of verification mechanism on the Internet."
Since its launch on July 24, the Worldcoin project has faced investigations in Germany, France and the UK, Argentina, and Kenya.
At the end of August, Worldcoin set a record for the most registered users in one day in Argentina.
