Optimism is conducting the third round of OP token airdrops: distribution and price
Optimism, a Layer 2 solution for blockchain, has announced the third round of token distribution through an airdrop, during which 19.4 million OP tokens worth $26 million will be distributed. These tokens will be allocated among 31,870 addresses that participated in staking assets in a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) called the Optimism Collective. Similar to the two previous rounds, this new phase aims to incentivize user activity on the network and reward their contributions to Optimism's development.
According to the Optimism team's statement, the average reward is 600 OP tokens, equivalent to $840. However, the reward amount varies depending on various factors and is calculated based on the number of OP tokens staked by users multiplied by the duration of their participation.
The conditions and mechanism of OP token distribution through Optimism's airdrop
The minimum participation threshold is set at 18,000 tokens with a participation period from January 20 to July 20, 2023. Users who staked at least 180 OP tokens for 100 days during this period will be eligible to receive tokens through the airdrop.
Optimism users who participated in at least one previous DAO campaign will also receive double rewards. To ensure fairness, the maximum number of OP tokens per address is limited to 10,000.
Despite the announcement of the new airdrop, the price of the OP token has remained relatively stable. At the time of writing this news, the token was trading at $1.39, representing only a slight decrease of 1.63% over the past 24 hours.
The history of OP token distribution and its impact on the price
This third round of OP token distribution comes shortly after the Optimism team completed the distribution of the remaining tokens from the first airdrop, which took place in June 2022. On September 15, 2023, Optimism began distributing the unused 48 million OP tokens worth $66.7 million, which were distributed among 88,000 unique addresses.
