Half of all stolen non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are sold within 160 minutes on the largest NFT marketplaces, including Blur and OpenSea. This is stated in the report of the blockchain security company PeckShield.
According to analysts, hackers stole $2.27 million worth of NFTs last month, the lowest monthly figure for 2023. Moreover, the June values were 85% lower than in February, when the value of the stolen NFTs peaked at $16.2 million.
PeckShield also found out that the scammers sell half of the NFTs within almost three hours. This indicates that it doesn't take long for hackers to get rid of some of their ill-gotten gains.
Blur and OpenSea became the most popular NFT marketplaces for selling stolen tokens, with 99.7% of stolen NFTs going to these platforms in June. Blur processed 86% and OpenSea 13.76%.
Minors steal millions of dollars worth of NFTs
Since December 2021, at least 900 Discord servers have been compromised to carry out phishing attacks. As a result, fraudsters stole non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrency worth $73 million.
According to analysts, the majority of thefts - 95% - were committed by users under the age of 18. With the money from the sale of stolen NFTs, schoolchildren buy expensive gadgets, clothes, and skins on the Roblox platform.
Hackers cleaned up the crypto market for $656 million
At the end of the first half of 2023, the total value of cryptocurrencies lost as a result of scams, hacks and thefts amounted to $656 million. In total, attackers conducted 108 attacks on protocols, 110 rag pulls and a number of phishing scams, receiving $471.43 million, $75.87 million and $108 million, respectively.
At the same time, the damage from hacking in 2023 turned out to be significantly less than a year earlier. In the first half of 2022, it exceeded $1.9 billion. However, the hackers returned about $215 million, which is 45.5% of all stolen assets.
