The UK convened a meeting of the UN Security Council because of the risk of the use of nuclear weapons by artificial intelligence
For the first time, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on the risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The Associated Press (AP) writes about this with reference to British Ambassador Barbara Woodward. The UK will chair the meeting, which is scheduled for July 18.
During the meeting, the parties will hear testimony from international experts in the field of AI, as well as Secretary General António Guterres. The publication notes that earlier Guterres had already sounded the alarm about the sharp development of AI. During the meeting, the UK wants to make sure that the member states of the UN Security Council are not only aware of the huge opportunities, but also the risks associated with artificial intelligence, Woodward said.
The British ambassador admits that AI can help "bridge the gap between developing and developed countries." However, the technology also carries serious risks associated with the control of nuclear or autonomous weapons.
In April, the EU countries, as well as the UK, hinted at a ban on the sensational chatbot ChatGPT. Lawmakers have stated that it is unacceptable to use personal data to develop chatbots and expressed concern about artificial intelligence training methods. Since then, however, the chatbot has continued to operate in many countries.
However, the restrictions affected Google. The Irish Data Protection Commission said Google still hasn't provided enough information on how its AI-powered technologies protect the privacy of Europeans.
Earlier, the editors wrote that Google is going to train its Bard chatbot using open data from all over the Internet. Also, the search giant intends to use open data from the Internet to train the Cloud AI service.
