Retro-Styled Gaming Jackets

These navy-blue zip-up jackets, set to go on sale on Thursday and available until December 1st, represent a modern take on the originals from the 1980s. Unlike their predecessors, these jackets are made from denser material and feature an embroidered Atari logo instead of the original detachable patch.

The initiative is part of an official collaboration with Members Only, a fashion brand that shares the gaming legacy of the '80s.

The official website reports that ARC NFT owners, presented in May, not only gain early access to these jackets but also enjoy voting rights, discounts, and early access to other products. While the new jackets won't be in buyers' hands until February or March 2024, the company offers a temporary solution: fans can purchase logo patches to adorn their jackets upon arrival.

Blockchain Gaming Pioneer

Tyler Drevitz, the director of Atari X, sheds light on the company's six-year journey in the blockchain space. He acknowledges the disagreements in this realm and the traditional gaming community's concerns regarding Web3 games.

"Atari has truly pushed boundaries in both technology and games," stated Drevitz. Founded in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell, the company became a pioneer in video games. Now, it views Web3 as a pivotal role in the evolution of technology and gaming.

Atari's Stance Against Gaming for Profit

Despite developing its Web3 ecosystem, Atari X doesn't anticipate an influx of cryptocurrency-based games anytime soon. Drevitz critiques the quality of hastily developed blockchain games and hints at exploring player ownership of Web3 and other integrations, possibly subtly weaving them into classic titles.

One thing is clear: the company steers away from the "play to earn" model. Drevitz believes a focus on earnings detracts from the enjoyment. Instead, he proposes enhancing the gaming process through Web3 technologies.

Looking Ahead

The gaming pioneer previously celebrated its 50th anniversary by releasing a computer game in partnership with Pixels.com. The gaming giant introduced an NFT collection complemented by physical posters and prints.

Members Only jackets symbolize more than just fashion. They serve as a bridge between eras, paying homage to the past while embracing a burgeoning digital future.

As the gaming giant continues to amalgamate its retro legacy with cutting-edge technologies, other renowned studios like Square Enix and Ubisoft are exploring how best to implement blockchain technology in video games. Hopefully, through trial and error, we'll soon witness blockchain gaming that captivates the masses and reshapes the stigma associated with NFTs.
