The world of decentralized finance (DeFi) has once again come under attack, this time with the DeFi platform Trader Joe at the center of attention. Users of Trader Joe were recently alerted to deceptive Google ads falsely claiming association with their decentralized exchange (DEX).
The advertised website that appeared in Google search results had no legitimate connection to the cryptocurrency project. Moreover, Trader Joe does not engage in advertising on Google, leaving no room for doubt that these are the activities of scammers directing people to a phishing site.
The Trader Joe team has issued a warning to users and followers, urging them to exercise caution and access the platform exclusively through the link provided on their official social media account on X.
It is worth noting that the URL displayed in the fake Google ads cleverly disguises the actual address of the phishing site.
Similar tactics have been used by fraudsters targeting users of the popular password manager, KeePass, a few weeks ago. Those who clicked on the fake KeePass ads on Google were redirected to a phishing site, resulting in the unwitting download of malicious software.
A similar scheme was implemented to target users of the Imtoken wallet earlier this year.
