Members of the Cardano community expressed their disappointment after Messari, a cryptocurrency analytics platform, released its annual review of cryptocurrencies for 2024. They argue that the report disregarded their supported blockchain and its notable successes throughout the year. To illustrate their point, they noted that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana were mentioned 178, 96, and 65 times in the report, respectively. Notably, Binance Coin (BNB) and Ripple (XRP) also received mentions.

Supporters of Cardano contend that this omission was deliberate and can be seen as favoring centralized projects. Some believe that cryptocurrencies should shift away from their decentralized roots towards fast, centralized payment systems, a vision they claim Cardano does not fit into. Furthermore, they argue that Cardano's popularity warrants a mention in the report. ADA Whale, a prominent Cardano supporter, emphasized that ADA has become one of the "major winners in the past few weeks." They foresee paradigm-shifting DeFi applications and significant crypto projects with the potential for mass adoption on the horizon.

ADA Whale concluded by accusing entities like MessariCrypto of feigning concern for cryptocurrencies, asserting that they not only harm Cardano but also undermine the fundamental principles of cryptocurrencies. This controversy highlights the ongoing debates within the cryptocurrency community regarding centralization and recognition of emerging blockchain projects like Cardano.
