Cryptocurrency users faced significant losses in December 2023, with a total of $33.5 million disappearing due to various security breaches and fraudulent activities. According to security experts, the major categories of losses include "exit scams" or "rug pulls" accounting for around $3.2 million, exploits involving "flash loans" totaling $2.4 million, and losses resulting from cybercriminal attacks amounting to $27.8 million. The NFT Trader incident followed closely with losses of $3 million, and the Private Key Compromise 0x896 accounted for $2.5 million in losses. The attack on the decentralized Flooring Protocol ranked next, causing $1.7 million in user losses. Finally, StoicDAO users experienced losses of $1.4 million.
