Threatening Crypto Heist in Thailand

In a disturbing turn of events, a Russian couple living on Phuket Island, Thailand, fell victim to a terrifying cryptocurrency heist, where they were subjected to threats and violence. On the evening of January 31st, while returning home, the couple was abducted near a street food stall on Hongyok Utis Street in the Muang district.

The Kidnapping

The criminals forced the couple into a black Hyundai minivan and swiftly drove away in an unknown direction. They wasted no time in revealing their demands, insisting that the couple transfer their digital assets to the criminals' wallet, warning of dire consequences if they refused. Fearing for their safety, the husband complied with the demands, transferring the valuable digital assets. Following the transfer, the criminals released the couple, who promptly reported the incident to the police.

Police Action

The Phuket police, led by Major General Sinlert Sukhum, swiftly apprehended four suspects in connection with the crime, all of whom were also Russian nationals. The suspects, however, vehemently denied their involvement, claiming to be innocent tourists who arrived in Thailand in mid-December. Currently, investigations are ongoing, including interviews and other investigative measures to collect evidence. The police have also informed Phuket's immigration authorities regarding the suspects.

Similar Incident in Greece

This alarming incident in Thailand is not an isolated case. In a previous incident in Greece, two unidentified individuals abducted a programmer in an attempt to steal his cryptocurrency holdings. The rise in cryptocurrency-related crimes underscores the need for increased security and awareness within the crypto community.
