Pavel Fedorov, a blogger, sold his nickname “pavel” on Telegram for 15,000 TON, which at the time of the transaction amounted to about $80,000. The transaction took place on the Fragment exchange in April 2024 after a week-long auction.

Nickname history

Fedorov received the nickname for free nine years ago and decided to put it up for sale.

The new owner, known as the founder, decided not to keep the nickname for himself, but gave it to Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram.

Durov's reaction

Durov expressed gratitude for the gift and shared statistics: over the past 18 months, $350 million worth of nicknames and anonymous numbers on Telegram have been sold.

Durov also announced the purchase of the nickname "paul" for 10,000 TON in order to prevent such generous gifts.

News about tokenization in Telegram

At the TOKEN2049 conference, Durov also touched upon the topic of tokenization of stickers and emoji in the messenger.
