In China, law enforcement authorities detained a suspect in the theft of 40,000 STRK, which is part of the Starknet program. The individual was identified as Lan Mou, who allegedly used someone else's information to obtain these funds.
Brief chronicle of the incident
According to local media, Lan Mow's arrest occurred on April 25, 2024, after a complaint was filed for evading an amount of 40,000 STRK (approximately $49,000 at current exchange rates). A computer and two mobile phones were confiscated from him.
Police say the suspect used someone else's credentials to participate in the Starknet Early Community Member Program (ECMP). The ECMP program was created in November 2023 and provided participants with the opportunity to receive a share of 50 million STRK for finding technical errors in the project code.
Fraud method
According to the investigation, Lan Mou used tickets stolen from the GitHub portal to fill out the ECMP participation form. The suspect submitted approximately 40 applications for the program, which ultimately resulted in him receiving 40,000 STRK.
After receiving the funds, Lan Mou transferred them to his account on the OKX exchange, where they were converted into 91,000 USDT. The investigation into this case is still ongoing.
The terms of the Starknet airdrop drew criticism from the community, but the project team responded to them by making changes to their structure and conditions of participation.
