The Southern District of New York, presided over by Judge Analisa Torres, sentenced Juan Tacuri to 20 years in prison for his active role in a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme. According to the case, Tacuri was the senior promoter of the project, which defrauded thousands of investors, primarily from the Hispanic community. He was also ordered to pay more than $3.6 million in damages and forfeit a Florida home purchased with the stolen funds.

Forcount: Scam Details

Forcount, later known as Weltsys, falsely claimed to be a cryptocurrency mining and trading company. Tacuri and other company representatives promised investors guaranteed daily returns and doubled their investment within six months. However, as it turned out, the company did not engage in any real cryptocurrency operations. Forcount operated as a classic Ponzi scheme, where new investments were used to pay out previous investors, and the founders enriched themselves at the expense of gullible investors.

The victims of the fraud were mainly Hispanic representatives of the working class. Takuri actively traveled around the United States, holding various events to attract new participants to the project. From small meetings to large-scale presentations, he talked about his financial successes and convinced people to invest in Forcount. Many were promised that these investments would open the path to financial independence.

Despite numerous complaints since 2018, when investors began to realize that it was impossible to withdraw funds, Takuri and his associates continued to promote the scheme, attracting more and more participants.
