Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken has unveiled a new desktop app called “Kraken Desktop” designed for active cryptocurrency traders. According to a press release, the app allows users to monitor a variety of live market data through a customizable interface, as well as use charting and analysis tools to help keep up with market changes.
The public launch of the app follows a successful closed beta. Traders are now given full access to all of Kraken’s trading capabilities, including spot and futures markets.
In addition, Kraken Desktop replaces Cryptowatch, a popular trading terminal that many users relied on that was discontinued in July 2023. The new app is built from the ground up, but is inspired by Cryptowatch’s functionality.
Kraken Desktop is also focused on speed and reliability. The app was built using the Rust programming tool, which allows it to run quickly and use less memory on the user’s computer. The program is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems, making it accessible to a wider audience.
The app has added features designed for experienced traders. For example, the “ladder trading” tool allows you to place multiple orders at once, and the “auto-join” feature makes it easier to place buy and sell orders when market prices change.
Clark Moody, Senior Engineering Manager at Kraken Desktop, noted: “Active traders play a key role in providing liquidity to the crypto market and in price formation.”
Kraken has been actively expanding its range of services lately. The exchange recently introduced kBTC, a version of Bitcoin for the Ethereum blockchain and OP Mainnet. In 2025, a new Ethereum Layer 2 solution called Ink is planned to launch.
