The project, created by Italian artist Valentina Picozzi, was developed for almost two years. The concept of the monument has found support among cryptocurrency supporters, thanks to its symbolic meaning and unique design.
The creation of the statue was aimed at popularizing cryptocurrencies through art. Picozzi explained that her work is a faceless figure behind a laptop, made of 304 metal blocks with slots. This unusual approach allows the statue to “disappear” when viewed from a certain angle. This solution symbolizes the idea that each participant in the network can consider themselves part of Satoshi Nakamoto.
The statue is located in Siani Park, opposite a 19th-century villa used for events. The unveiling of the monument took place as part of the Plan B forum, which annually attracts crypto industry leaders, officials, and enthusiasts to Lugano. The city's mayor, Michele Foletti, noted that the installation of the statue reflects Lugano's commitment to digital innovation and future technologies.
The monument draws attention to the philosophy of decentralization and the importance of collective efforts in the development of blockchain technologies. The phrase "We are all Satoshi", which has become the motto of Bitcoin fans, conveys the essence of the project more accurately than ever. According to Picozzi, the statue may be moved in the future, since the final location for its placement has not yet been chosen.
The installation of the monument in Lugano is not the first time the name of Satoshi Nakamoto has been immortalized. In 2021, a bronze statue was unveiled in Budapest, reflecting the faces of viewers on its mirror surface. This approach emphasizes the importance of each participant in the network, on whom the success of decentralized systems rests.
Lugano continues to strengthen its status as a digital hub, and the Satoshi monument is another step towards integrating cryptocurrencies into society. The reaction to its installation, especially among blockchain supporters, confirms the relevance and importance of this initiative.
