Analysts at the Gemini crypto exchange, together with Glassnode, conducted a study by analyzing transaction timestamps to determine the level of trading activity in different regions. According to their findings, retail investor activity in the Asia-Pacific region is growing significantly faster than in North America and Europe.

According to the report, since Bitcoin reached its local minimum in December 2022, the BTC supply in Asia has increased by 6.4% year-on-year. At the same time, the US saw a decrease of 5.7%, and Europe - by 0.7%.

This distribution indicates a noticeable shift in the structure of cryptocurrency trading. If the US previously dominated retail transactions, now the leadership is gradually shifting to the Asia-Pacific region. Glassnode experts note that such a redistribution is due to different approaches of investors: in the US, institutional players have the main influence on the market, while in Asia, private traders are more active.

One of the factors that influenced the decline in interest of retail investors in the US, analysts say, was the launch of American spot bitcoin ETFs in January 2024. These funds attracted a significant share of institutional capital, which changed the balance of power in crypto trading. As a result, retail trading has shifted to Asian countries, where individual investors continue to actively increase the volume of transactions with bitcoin.
