At the Let Loose event, Apple announced the official announcement of its latest processor, the M4, designed to improve the performance of AI tasks on iPadOS devices. This new chip will be available in the new 11- and 13-inch iPad Pro tablets, featuring industry-leading specifications and functionality.
Technical features
Manufactured using the second-generation 3nm process, the M4 offers significant performance improvements over previous models. Containing four high-performance cores and six power-efficient cores, each equipped with machine learning accelerators, the chip provides new capabilities for running AI-intensive workloads quickly and efficiently.
Improved graphics and speed
The M4 is equipped with a 10-core GPU based on next-generation graphics architecture. This GPU supports dynamic caching, ray tracing, Mesh Shading technology and offers a new rendering engine. According to the company, the M4 offers 50% faster speeds compared to the previous M2 integrated into previous versions of the iPad Pro.
Neural engine
One of the key features of the M4 is its upgraded 16-core neural processing unit (NPU), which is capable of performing up to 38 trillion operations per second. According to Apple, this is 60 times faster than previous models, which significantly improves the device's data processing and analysis capabilities.
Capabilities and Applications
The M4 NPU provides support and acceleration for a wide range of tasks, including generating video subtitles, isolating objects in frames in Final Cut Pro, and automatically creating notations in StaffPad. Additionally, the M4 features AV1 hardware acceleration and reduces memory requirements when running inference-based AI tasks.
Apple continues to set new standards in mobile computing and artificial intelligence with its latest M4 chip, which promises to improve the user experience and expand the AI capabilities of iPad Pro devices.
