The developer of the Axie Infinity blockchain game, Sky Mavis, has entered into a partnership with the CyberKongz crypto project. They will develop a gaming ecosystem for the Ethereum Ronin sidechain. Writes about it The Block.
The statement also announced the launch of the new Genkai game, but the details of the development were not disclosed. It is known that the new game will be compatible with the existing Axie Infinity gaming ecosystem.
Kathleen Osgood, head of business development at Sky Mavis, has confirmed that developers will use Axie Infinity's gaming experience to create a new game. In her opinion, the new project will revitalize the blockchain gaming sector and attract more players to Web3.
In addition, on July 27, CyberKongz will introduce a new collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) called Genkai, in which some tokens will be minted on Ronin. CyberKongz's blockchain game, Play & Kollect, will also switch to Ronin. The company suggests that this will expand the base of existing users.
Dynamic NFT characters
Last week, the Sky Mavis team announced the Axie Experience Points (AXP) system, which allows players to level up characters. This means that, unlike previous versions of NFTs, users can now "evolve" their characters as part of gameplay.
You can upgrade your character by earning Axie Experience Points (AXP). When the player accumulates enough points, he must increase the character three times and reach level 30. After that, the user will be able to improve three parts of the character.
Investments in blockchain games are collapsing
Meanwhile, the blockchain gaming market is going through hard times. In the first quarter of 2023, it was possible to attract 70% less investment ($739 million) than in the same period in 2022 ($2.5 billion).
In addition to the reduction in investment, user activity also fell. In December 2022, the volume of gaming wallets was almost 2.5 million units, and by the end of March 2023, it fell to 2 million active wallets on a monthly basis. At the same time, the legendary Axie Infinity was only on the eighth line in the ranking of games with the largest number of active users.
