Francis Suarez, who is the mayor of Miami and advocates bitcoin (BTC), on August 29 announced the suspension of his campaign for the presidency. He did it on his official X account.
"I have made the decision to suspend my presidential campaign while remaining committed to making this nation a better place for every American."
Suarez, speaking about the fact that his nomination as a candidate for the presidency was for him the highest honor in his life, promised to keep in touch with other Republican candidates and would support any strong candidate who nominated his party.
However, Suarez's statement did not state the reason for his departure. However, the media speculated that his decision was due to the campaign's failure to secure a seat in the initial GOP primary debate.
Support for bitcoin needed
Given his pro-cryptocurrency biography, Suarez's short run for president has sparked interest from the digital community. The mayor was one of 3 Republican candidates who are said to support the booming industry.
Suarez became one of the first American politicians to receive their salaries in bitcoin. In addition, he was engaged in the creation of the city's own cryptocurrency - MiamiCoin (MIA), which can participate as a financial instrument for municipal programs and receive income with their help.
Mayor Suarez said his campaign is receiving flagship digital asset donations from his supporters. At the time of publication, his website showed that he was still accepting donations in several cryptocurrencies.
The mayor's campaign team has not yet answered the question of how many cryptocurrency donations they have received using funds from their clients.
However, the former presidential candidate also expressed dissatisfaction with central bank digital currencies (CBDc). He said he would ban these currencies because they violate the privacy rights of US residents.
