The social network Twitter has prepared a lawsuit against Meta Corporation * (recognized by the Russian authorities as extremist and banned in the country) due to the launch of the Threads application.

A lawyer representing Twitter sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg accusing the company of stealing trade secrets by hiring former employees of the company. Moreover, these were the workers who "improperly preserved Twitter documents and electronic devices." Therefore, Meta "deliberately" involved these employees in the development of Threads.

Alex Spiro's letter also states that Meta engaged in the "systematic, deliberate and misappropriation of Twitter's trade secrets and other intellectual property."

"Twitter will strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and requires Meta to take immediate action to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information," he said.

However, Meta spokesman Andy Stone denied the contents of the letter. He stressed that none of the Threads engineers had previously worked at Twitter.

"It's just ridiculous. Among the members of the Threads team, there is no one who worked in the past at Twitter," he said.

The news was commented on by the owner of Twitter, Elon Musk. On his page, he noted:

"Competition is great, but fraud is not."

Rumors about the development of a competitor to Twitter appeared at the beginning of last month. Then the journalists found out about the imminent launch of a new social network codenamed "Project 92". Even at the development stage, Meta negotiated with major influencers to agree to use the app.

The social network has integration with ActivityPub, a decentralized social media protocol. This will allow you to migrate accounts and subscribers to other applications that support ActivityPub, including Mastodon.

On the first day of the application, more than 30 million users joined the social network. Moreover, on the first day after launch, Threads became the number one free app in the App Store.
