The so-called zaps help users get Satoshi for viewing posts. The initiative is implemented through the Bitcoin Lightning Network micropayment network.
"We've noticed that your app allows users to submit "hints" related to getting content from contributors through a mechanism other than buying from the [AppStore],” Apple said in a statement.
The developer of the project, William Kasarin, did not rule out abandoning zaps in order to remain in the app store.
According to him, if Apple removes the application, their marketplace will become “a dead platform for blockchain applications trying to innovate with Lightning.”
“Damus does not sell digital goods or provide tools to sell them. The service simply has hints to facilitate P2P transactions, for example, through Venmo or CashApp,” added the representatives of the protocol.
Damus positions itself as a social network controlled by users. The application is built on the decentralized network Nostr, which provides end-to-end exchange of personal messages without the use of servers through relays.
The developers introduced the content monetization feature in March. In parallel with the introduction of zaps, the platform was flooded with fraudulent projects posing as original cryptocurrency protocols.
